Product Description

Taylor Academy 12e — Grand Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar

Not every great guitar has to be complicated. Sometimes the best thing a guitar can do is get out of the way — feel comfortable in your hands, sound better than it has any right to, and make you want to keep playing long after you planned to stop. That's the Taylor Academy 12e. Simple on the surface. Seriously impressive underneath.

The Right Size for the Right Sound

The Grand Concert body shape is one of acoustic guitar's best-kept secrets. Smaller and more refined than a dreadnought, it sits naturally in the lap, rests comfortably against the body, and produces a sound that's focused, articulate, and surprisingly full for its size. Where a dreadnought booms, the Grand Concert sings — clear, balanced, and responsive to the lightest touch. It's the body shape fingerpickers reach for, the one that rewards nuance and subtlety without punishing players who like to strum.

The Academy 12e builds on that foundation with a solid torrefied spruce top — Taylor's proprietary roasting process gives the wood a warmth and openness that feels far more seasoned than a guitar at this price point should. Paired with layered sapele back and sides that add a natural brightness and clarity to the mix, this guitar has a voice that's genuinely musical and satisfying whether you're playing alone in a quiet room or filling a small venue.

Designed to Feel Like a Taylor from the First Note

Taylor didn't strip down the Academy Series to make it affordable — they engineered it from scratch to deliver the Taylor playing experience at an accessible price. Every decision on this guitar points toward one thing: making it easier and more enjoyable to play.

The slim hard rock maple neck has a 24-7/8" scale length — slightly shorter than a full-size guitar — which reduces string tension and makes everything feel a little more forgiving under the fingers. The 1-11/16" nut width keeps chord shapes compact without cramping. Light gauge strings lower the effort required on every press. And the genuine ebony fretboard is smooth, fast, and responsive in a way that cheaper fretboard materials simply aren't.

Then there's the carved armrest — a body contour cut directly into the lower bout where your strumming arm rests. On most guitars at this price, that edge is sharp and unforgiving over a long session. On the Academy 12e, it disappears completely. It's a small detail that makes an enormous difference, and it's the kind of thing you only notice on a guitar that was designed by people who actually play.

Ready for the Stage Before You Are

The onboard ES-B electronics system means this guitar is plug-and-play from day one. Taylor built the ES-B using technology from their flagship Expression System 2, so the amplified tone is natural, warm, and genuinely acoustic-sounding rather than the thin, piezo-ish signal most entry-level pickups produce. The built-in chromatic tuner means one less thing to carry. One less excuse not to play.

Whether this is your first acoustic or your trusty travel companion, the Academy 12e ships gig-bag-ready and covered by Taylor's warranty — because even an entry-level Taylor is still a Taylor.
