Product Description

Taylor Next Generation 714ce — Western Red Cedar & Indian Rosewood Acoustic-Electric Guitar (Natural)

There's a certain kind of player who already knows what they want from a guitar before they ever pick one up. They want warmth. They want touch sensitivity. They want a guitar that responds to the lightest brush of a fingertip and opens up into something rich and complex when they dig in. They want cedar. The Taylor Next Generation 714ce was built for exactly that player — and with the most meaningful set of upgrades Taylor has introduced in years, it's now better at it than it has ever been.

The Tonewood Combination That Stands Apart

The 714ce has always occupied its own unique space in Taylor's lineup, defined by one key difference from every other Grand Auditorium in the range: the top. Where the 814ce and 414ce use Sitka spruce — bright, projecting, bold — the 714ce wears Western Red cedar, and that single choice changes everything about how the guitar sounds and feels.

Cedar is softer and lighter than spruce, which means it vibrates more freely at lower playing volumes, responding immediately to the gentlest touch rather than needing to be pushed to come alive. The result is a warmth and intimacy that spruce-top guitars simply can't replicate at the same dynamic level — a voice that feels present and expressive even when you're barely playing. Notes bloom rather than cut. Overtones layer naturally on top of each other rather than separating cleanly. It's the tonewood of choice for fingerstyle players, recording artists, and anyone who wants their guitar to feel like an extension of their hands rather than a tool they have to work.

Pair that cedar top with solid Indian rosewood back and sides and the picture completes itself beautifully. Rosewood's deep, authoritative lows and piano-like high-end clarity wrap around cedar's warmth and responsiveness like a frame around a painting — adding richness, depth, and a shimmering harmonic complexity that sustains in the air long after the note has been played. Throaty in the low end, mellow and round in the midrange, clear and singing in the trebles. There isn't another tonewood combination quite like it.

Scalloped V-Class: Warming Up the Already Warm

Taylor's V-Class bracing was already one of the most significant advances in acoustic guitar construction in recent memory — and cedar responded to it beautifully, gaining sustain, volume, and pitch accuracy that made the original 714ce a genuinely exceptional instrument. Scalloped V-Class takes that relationship one step further. The scalloped profile carved into each brace unlocks even more low-end resonance and open-string warmth, giving the guitar a fuller, more enveloping response that amplifies everything cedar does naturally. More sustain. More overtone complexity. More of that characteristic bloom that 714ce players have always loved — now deeper and richer than ever before.

Action Control Neck: Precision Without the Appointment

Cedar's touch sensitivity means setup matters more on a 714ce than almost any other guitar — a slightly high action can work against the responsiveness that makes the tonewood special, while an action that's too low can introduce unwanted buzz on a guitar this responsive. The Action Control Neck solves this elegantly. A simple bolt adjustment through the soundhole — no string removal, no neck pull, no luthier appointment — lets you micro-adjust the neck angle and dial in the precise string height that lets cedar do what it does best. Quick, exact, and completely reversible any time conditions change.

The long-tenon joint at the heart of the system also improves the neck-to-body coupling, adding warmth and low-end resonance that reinforces cedar's natural character rather than working against it.

Claria: Cedar's Voice, Faithfully Amplified

Translating an acoustic guitar as warm and touch-sensitive as the 714ce into an amplified signal has always been a challenge — the nuance that makes cedar special is exactly what traditional piezo pickups tend to flatten or harden. Claria was built to solve that problem. Taylor's redesigned transducer and proprietary preamp work together to capture the full dynamic range and tonal complexity of the cedar-and-rosewood voice, while three soundhole-mounted controls — Volume, Tone, and Mid-Contour — give you real-time shaping for any room, any stage, any mix. The warmth stays warm. The nuance stays nuanced. Plug in and it still sounds unmistakably like the 714ce.

Dressed With Distinction

The Next Generation 714ce carries forward the visual elegance that has always set the 700 Series apart. The full-body natural gloss finish glows warmly over the cedar top, showing off its even, fine grain. White body binding frames the edges cleanly. A green abalone single-ring rosette with black and white accents catches the light with quiet sophistication. The Reflections inlay suite in green abalone runs up the ebony fretboard — a series of elegant, interlocking shapes that are immediately recognizable as distinctly 714ce. Gold tuning machines and a faux-tortoiseshell pickguard round out a look that's refined, cohesive, and genuinely beautiful.
